Admittedly, I wouldn’t know who he was if it weren’t for Daniel Bryan using a version of the Lebell lock as his finisher. Though I do hope that Seagal story is true.

As a long time fan of the Conan character, particularly the Roy Thomas comic books, the films tend to screw up his origin. In both the Arnold and Momoa films, Conan is living a bucolic life of splendour in his untouched Cimmerian paradise until EVIL invades and destroys his family and village. Something similar

every time I see someone talk about how Superman is the greatest superhero (...Oi) it’s always the exact same old-school worship of him for being a guy who was written a long time ago and has been around a long time and smiles a lot but with absolutely no understanding of his character history

Then finally they can make a decent Superman film, as there hasn’t been one for over 40 years.

And he killed all those Trojans!

Kurosawa’s films certainly were, particularly Yojimbo.

Well sure, but there are more comparisons. The General and The Princess are similar to Obi Wan and Leia, and Darth Vader’s look is clearly inspired by the villain and his traditional kabuto.

More fun facts: in Japan, the film was released as “Samurai of the Desert”.

Although heavily inspired by The Hidden Fortress, it’s not really an adaptation in any meaningful sense of the word.
