We all love Aubrey Plaza, but Megan Mullally is one of the most talented people on the planet.

We really don’t need any more movies being needlessly split into two parts. This one was too long, but I’m not sure how halving it would have made it any better. If anything, it might have felt less overlong if it had been a six episode TV series. But that wouldn’t earn a billion dollars, so one three hour long movie…
Not really. She quit The Dropout for Joe vs. Carol. That’s about it for the drama.
It still irritates me to this day.
Whoever is still working at AV Club is probably reaching for anything at this point, given that 7 AV Club staffers resigned effective yesterday instead of being forced to take big pay cuts to move to LA. I’m guessing that whatever newbies hired to undercut the longer-tenured union employees are simply scrambling to…
Was there some drama about Kate McKinnon leaving the Holmes project or something? This seems to imply that we should already know about it.
Remember how the AV Club was reviewing Fleabag and then just suddenly forgot to cover the last two episodes of the season/series?
Behrad still has his totem, so the effects aren’t gone.
I enjoyed Constantine as a character and Ryan’s performance, but I can’t deny that Legends is stronger when it’s about time travel rather than magic. It was like Constantine had a gravitational pull on the stories and they couldn’t escape becoming more about him. I’m glad they found a way to keep Ryan while balancing…
I’ll miss Nate and his wonderful hair so much!
Thanks Jarrod for your reviews, you’ve been amazing! Wishing you the best for whatever comes next (these last 2 weeks have been difficult for being on AV Club). Once a legend, always a legend!
I think seasons 5 and 6 were also weaker than 2-4. It was still generally fun and zany, but I would say the writing overall just wasn’t as strong, regardless of who was on the team.
A lesser show would have had a Nate/Zari/Zari love triangle, whichever way that swings.
Yeah the Nate/Zari 2.0 dynamic settled in a good place once they got over the initial weirdness. I am super happy they kept human Gideon instead of somehow reloading her back into the Waverider.
I have been consistently surprised how well put-together season 7 has been. The show peaked around season 3 for me, and though I’ve enjoyed everything since it’s been slightly ever diminishing returns, with season 6 being a bit more noticeable due to COVID impacts. Season 7 proves there’s still gas in the tank, far…
Just saw it. I’ll probably eventually post a more cohesive comment with my thoughts, but here are my random thoughts:
Check out the review on BBC if you have a minute: https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20220228-the-batman-review-a-noirish-pulp-fantasy.
Thank you for your reviews, Dowd. You and the rest of the writers stable deserved so much better. I can’t wait to follow y’all wherever you land.
Dowd flourishes his cape and disappears into the dark of night one last time. Godspeed, sir. Until the critic-signal appears in the clouds again, we’ll be watching.
Dowd, I’m glad the last movie you reviewed for this site was a halfway decent one. I’ll miss your good work around here.
