I assumed when I watched the finale that the sisters had always been playing Littlefinger, that Sansa was leading him along in order to get him in the perfect position to expose him in front of the Knights of the Vale so she could deal with him and keep their support.

If you’re going to work backwards from the conclusion you want like these writers clearly did, you have to come up with a reasonable explanation as to why the characters would do what they do, and this... really isn’t. That would have solved a lot of what was wrong with that stupid storyline. Sure, they probably should have had some sort of conversation in the weeks/months that they were around which would naturally help defuse that tension. And you’d get some delicious dramatic irony knowing that Littlefinger was going down.…
