This is my new favorite picture of my pup Buster. He doesn’t smile very often — he’s a serious, dignified dog, damn it — and when he does it’s almost always while I’m petting him, so I’ve never been able to get a pic. But a friend snapped this one while I was rubbing his belly at the dog park.

So my dad made new friends after a divorce at 69. He gave me two good tips:
