No. It almost aggressively adheres to comicbook movie norms. I think it's mostly in the actors' chemistry that it stands out (and the obvious the-lead-is-female thing). If you don't like comicbook movies, then you won't like this.

I wonder if the tv show's take is actually a sign of naiveté. Like, in their hearts, the creators don't think even being run by Nazis could take away the American way of life.

If you were auditioning to play a wounded soldier, would you expect them to shoot you?

Probably not - but I'm not sure what your point is. Wonder Woman is supposed to be the ultimate goddess-woman. Beauty and grace seems like a part of that. One of the things I loved about this movie is that WW is clearly shot to be glorious and beautiful, but not as a sex-object.

Grooming is mix of practicality and arbitrary cultural choices about what's attractive/clean. Considering that the Amazons all still seem to have sexual feelings, it doesn't seem to be surprising that they'd have specific cultural grooming practices. Though I admit it's "movie magic" that these practices match what…

Seems a bit limiting. Are you arguing that, say, an all-female culture would all have shaved heads? Bowl cuts? Shaved armpits (to reduce underarm odor) but not legs?

Our choices are informed by our culture and thus our identity though. I mean, at a very simple level, I can't read a book if it's not translated into a language I am literate in. Thus, my taste and choices are shaped by my culture.

"How the audience responds" isn't entirely limited to how much they spend, though. If the audience all left FaF weeping, then I'd have the wonder why it moved them so deeply.

Are you trying to argue that there's some sort of universal definition of "well-groomed"?

And Ulysses S. Grant

Clamdiggers

Right? Pumpkinification. It's funny too because there's this whole bit about Claudius's incoherent speaking style. Though, considering that it was written for the new Emperor Nero and his flunkies, it would have a pretty bleak subtext.

She was in the EW ads.

It's an obscure bit of nastiness, but due for a revival I'd say.

Pure what?

Project Scorpio? I absolutely refuse to believe that.

Well, I might paint my fingernails orange - I like that color. But I'll pass on the mouth-eyeball.

Is Tiffany the Cordelia in this?

Or the Apocolocyntosis.
