Actually, in most of the US anyway, dogs are more likely to use us. Our relationship with them is arguably parasitical - we expend energy and resources to maintain them and their health, whereas they give us "companionship." And it's been wildly successful for dogs as a species. Notice that there are a lot more

True. I prefer to elect them based on their ability to show basic competence and recognize basic competence in others.

It was a horrifying psychological study performed decades ago. They took newborn monkeys from their mothers and offered each of them two substitute "mothers." One was a machine that secreted milk, the other was a towel - shaped vaguely like a monkey. The infant monkeys chose slowly starving to death with the cuddly

Wasn't Jeffs' motivated by his need for secrecy? Plus, Jeffs is an outlier and considered weird even within his own cultural group.

You must not know many dogs. Most lap dogs, for instance, will forgo "food in a bowl" for affection.

All that proves is that good fictional art is possible without government assistance. Which everyone knew already.

I don't really buy that argument. The government pays it's soldiers to perform the will of the people. I'm not going to mourn the fact that our soldiers respect and obey the civilian authority.

I'm not seeing what one has to do with the other. Clearly, the country can easily afford to pay for any number of Ken Burns documentaries while pouring huge amounts of money into the military.

The military needs a trillion dollars to care for injured soldiers?

God I hated that movie. If you're going to write a movie based on "fairytales" it helps to have some basic understanding of how fairytales work (or hire an anthropologist or use existing ones instead of the stupid ones you came up with). Also don't cast yourself in an important role if you're a mediocre at best actor.

Identity was a colossal disappointment. The set up was such a cool Agatha Christie-style, "everyone's got a secret which COULD mean they are the killer" and then it devolved into boring multiple-personality mess.

Yeah I don't know. Plenty of the toxic groups were less hung up on "modesty" and more on a woman's duty to be the perfect western Christian wife. Meaning you are sexy enough for your husband to be proud of you (and for him to be envied by all the other men) but you've also had tons of kids and you're a perfect cook

Because saving the universe will involve lifting lots of heavy things?

It is true though. I was homeschooled and knew some pretty nutty people with some horrible views on women but they weren't aspiring to this for the very simple reason that they are westerners who grew up in a western culture. Their sexism and cruelty is western-style sexism and cruelty. It doesn't involve headscarfs

Just post-Depression era. I mean, joining the army got some new soldiers regular meals for the first time in ages.

In a lot of the stories, Holmes and Watson even sort of fade into the background to allow the other single-story characters to shine. Kept things fresh and lively.

The fact that they created an Adler that was more sexist than her Victorian counterpart made me pretty much write off the show. If ACD is better at seeing a woman as a human being (as opposed to a series of sexy-tics and silly girl-feelings), you have a problem.

They are buying the physical machinery and factories (it sounds like). Probably adds up.

American Giant. Very nice hoodies.

Anyone read the prequel tetralogy? It was excellent. Took all the stuff he learned writing ASOUE and created a nice little series and a fun noire pastiche. I think the melancholy tone worked even better for that.
