It’s one thing to be racist at a time when a lot of people were racist. It’s also possible to differentiate that from literally fighting a war to preserve the ability to keep people enslaved.

Yes, it is. But the idea that someone in the entertainment industry would produce a show that attempts to be provocative, and in doing so, hurts a lot of people, is entirely plausible.
