In its defense, it got the Mayor to come back later and mess with Faith. I think the issue is that none of those older Big Bads would have had any particular impact on the characters they were torturing, other than Dru/Spike and the Mayor/Faith. Yeah, the scene with both of them is out in the main room of the Magic Box, and then he and Buffy go alone into the training room to talk. This is when they leave Anya alone with bound-by-magic Willow, and then it goes downhill from there.

Interesting. I dislike early Xander’s jealousy of Buffy and inability to take no for an answer, but he generally grows on me as the series progresses.

I just finished re-watching Buffy (again) last night, and I’m gonna say that seasons 3 and 4 are Willow/Alyson Hannigan’s best, this episode included.
