These are terrific designs. Can’t believe that very plain Mario shirt won, though. It’s neat, but doesn’t match the creativity of the rest at all.

Yeah, if you don’t like portable gaming, leave it in the base. Hell, if you’re that anti-handheld, leaving it in the base and buying a pro-controller would essentially make it less of a handheld than the Wii U.

It was always such a crapshoot. Some games utilized it and looked lovely. You mentioned Super Mario 3D Land, which looked great and actually used the concept in the gameplay. Then there were games like Gunman Clive and Kirby: Planet Robobot which just used it to look nice (which was also pretty cool in my book). It

It’s not just the sequels that hurt it. I’d say the fandom kinda killed it for me. I was SUCH a big fan and saw two out of three in theaters, but I think hearing about a billion bad Dr. Evil impersonations over the last 20 years has kind of hurt the series a lot for me. Napoleon Dynamite was the same way for a little

We need some Bouffalant merchandise. Seriously, he’s like the one Pokemon that has zero merch.

I get the purist take, but I was never super into the ride to begin with. We took our daughter to Disney in February and this was one of her favorite rides. Captain Jack became “Applejack” and that was cool enough for me.

So, his interpretation of censorship is following the original developer’s request? Is everyone taking crazy pills? This guy sure chose himself a fine hill to die on.

It really is unfortunate things have become such a gamble. For every Knite and the Ghost Lights and ‘90s Arcade Racer, there’s a Shovel Knight or Yooka-Laylee. And it would be a shame if the next potentially great project suffers because gamers feel burned by the projects that never got off the ground.

Fantastic article. This is the type of thing I come to Kotaku to read. While I’ve never played a fan translation before, things like this are a major part of the history of the medium. Great stuff.

Wow, those are really sharp looking! Kind of funny how it’s all Pikachu when the American KFC promotion from waaaaaaaaaay back in the day didn’t even feature Pikachu (or any of the biggest Pokemon, really).

I will always go to bat for a delay for quality. What was that Miyamoto quote? “Delays are temporary, bad games are forever?” It’s all the more impressive when you consider this is a freebie.

Sadly, never really played this as a kid. I remember Oregon Trail being pretty big, but I don’t remember spending much time with it. As an elementary school kid, I did love me some Number Munchers, though!

I have played every game in the main franchise at least one time. I have never once ran into a shiny (though I’ve also never actively tried, either).

I’m thinking this is due in no small part to a need to increase production on the Switch and a need to start production on an SNES mini.

I am ridiculously excited for this game.

I got the system on launch day, and I think I’ve used the connector once. I really like the separated Joy-Cons.

I have never played a game in this series, but there is just something really cool about the way they’re doing this. It’s certainly intriguing.

Guess I stand corrected!

It’s based on the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, so I guess it’s whoever he is on that show.
