I just finished a mini-binge of Graham Greene novels that were made into movies.  The Third Man, A Gun for Sale (made into This Gun for Hire) and Ministry of Fear.  All three were worthwhile reads from an author I had not read much of before - only Travels With My Aunt.

I would love to see that “... sizeable list of great films that are remakes of mediocre films.” I mostly remember it the other way around, with producers trying make money with inferior remakes, reboots, sequels, prequels and TV shows based on films that should have been left alone.
