@Joe Stoner: You get the same kind of attitudes from Windows and OS X users, so please don't paint it as "you Linux users". It's a subset of computer users that acts that way, not tied to a specific platform. Nerds can be a religious lot, attempting to convert the masses and shun the nay-sayers. (Star Wars vs. Star

@Joe Stoner: It hasn't been updated recently, apparently because of a rewrite, but CinePaint (Wikipedia) is a Gimp fork that has CMYK support as well as support for 16- and 32-bit colour channels and some other things Gimp lacks. It was apparently considered good enough for use in film work, though I don't know how

@Atmos42: Pinning and the start menu input box are awesome, in my opinion. My preferred tricks are KDE-oriented but translate fairly well to 7.

@will26: That was an interesting read, thanks for linking it.

@Black Knight Rebel: Virtual desktops are awesome, but they still can't do some things that two displays can do.

@TehBeardMan: I love how many responses you got to the math mistake.

@tkorth: Perhaps you should try getting rid of the desktop shortcuts completely. You can organise applications in other ways now, either with built-in desktop features or downloads (depending on OS).

@mtfmuffins: The system info stuff on the right side of the desktop looks like conky, a nice little system monitor toy for Linux.

. . . it was pixels, not monitors that increased productivity.

@CleverName: You sound like I did before I moved. Hope you're going somewhere you already know you like :)

@Mischif: Hey, that's a good idea and I might have to try it sometime. Thanks

If you want immersion, play with the lights out. Anything else is distracting.

@CleverName: 404 would be an awesome area code to have for the geeky types, except for needing to live in Atlanta to have it.

@yertle: Fragmentation is a problem on spinning disks because you have to spin the disk more to access data, which slows things down. SSDs don't work the same way and, as I understand it, there is little or no performance hit for reading fragmented data.

1. Few in the class know how to write in cursive.

@ifandbut: Could be a difference in beds and quality, I don't know. The only one I ever used had to frequently be patched up. Might be related to the tossing and turning, too.

I always thought they were comfortable to lie in, but I never could sleep very well in them because I toss and turn in my sleep.

@Insecur1tyGuard: From a technical standpoint, one doesn't supplant the other, but from a practical standpoint it does.

I usually just find something else to do when I'm angry or just in a bad mood. Getting involved in something is a good way to relax and shrug off the problems. Write, draw, code, play a game, it doesn't matter. Just start some music and start doing something else.

HTTP traffic has been cannibalising other protocols for years, so this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. As far back as ten years ago or more, people were building websites that did the same job as other protocols.
