Canadian here. Oleksiak was a complete unknown prior to these Olympics. After all, she’s only 16. At the World Junior Swimming Championships last year she came in second in the 100m freestyle (to another Canadian actually), so for her to improve on that result to a gold medal performance at the Olympics a year later…
