You do know the 5.7 was recommended and rated to run on mid grade 89 octane while the SO hurricane is rated on regular 87? So, small fuel economy improvement, more power, more torque, plus the ~14% savings in cost per gallon (per national average last week). Seems like a win in my book.

“...barely any benefit?”

...did you not see the HP/TQ numbers?

At first I thought this was unnecessarily inconvenient for us Massholes (yup I’m one), but now I realize why they do this. It basically ensures you have insurance (which is required here). Not only can you not get plates without insurance but you can’t renew your registration either. Could you get insurance and then

You answered your own question.

Do a solid for people instead of screwing them.

Law enforcement is the government’s job. Not businesses.

I had my K car (loved that thing!) stolen by some joy riding punks here in Austin 30 years ago. It had very little gas (fill up in morning) so they dumped it 5 blocks away. Instead of the cops calling me (they had my info) they towed it so I show up at the lot and was greeted with a $125 “fee.” I was pissed! The

As someone who lives in the Bay Area, can you tell me: is Oakland really a town? I would think a place that hosted Major League Baseball for decades would qualify as a city...

As hybrids and especially EVs show, the most efficient way to run an ICE engine is to not run it. My ‘20 Sonata hybrid Blue was among the most efficient cars available when I bought it—and my average so far over ~40k miles is 49mpg—but even the stupid-big Hummer EV is (slightly) more efficient at 54mpge.

nah its really theft. you can’t have shit in Oakland. A lotta cars are stolen here to be used here for smash and grabs. Someone rammed a stolen corolla into a lululemon down the street from my work the other day just to steal 5 pairs of leggings.

I live in the Bay Area. Its REALLY sad what has been happening in Oakland. I moved here 20+ years ago and Oakland was super scary even in the middle of the day. And then it slowly started to get cleaned up. It was actually pretty nice. Ever since the pandemic hit its just gone straight downhill. The abandoned cars is

Not true. The recent third-generation “HEMI” family has absolutely no relation to the HEMI engines of yore, and doesn’t even have hemispherical combustion chambers, anymore. It was a clean-sheet redesign in 2003.

Seems like it would be cheaper to just waive the towing and storage fees for that matter. Publish a list of the cars and let people come and claim them. Do a solid for people instead of screwing them.

Maybe it’s got more to do with the fact that these engines are tasked with providing even more power, and having to haul around a minimum of 5000 lbs. Whatd’ya expect?

If they run an auction or two to clear cars out I’m high-key eyeing that rust-free Civic HX coupe.

I’d have to be pretty desperate to flirt with insurance fraud.

I guess this isn’t a surprise since the same is true for the Ford turbo V6 vs V8:

Theft or “theft”? Because if you are underwater on your loan or lease, but the insurance can bail you out, then being the victim of a “theft” is a good resolution. Especially if your municipality has just imposed some sort of parking limitation and you can’t afford to sell, but can’t afford to park it, then that theft
