I wonder if moar cylinders would have helped. A 1.6L turbo V8 *seems* like it would be cooler than a 1.6L turbo V6. Maybe the extremely small cylinders would scream better?

Exactly. Much harder to take a shot off the dribble. And also mid range shots can happen anywhere. With 3 pointers the shooters can pick their favorite spot and practice that shot over and over in practice.

Also many poor jump shooters would rather shoot spot up threes because that's what they practice. Mid range shots are less likely to be wide open.
