The article isn’t an opinion piece. It’s actual reporting, which isn’t supposed to take a firm stance. And frankly she didn’t have to. The facts (including Whedon’s own words) loudly speak for themself.

The problem with glorifying techbro assholes is it just encourages more of them.
Good. Sexual assault is far too serious a transgression to have college administrators simply rubber stamp allegations and assume guilt. If you’re accused of something, you have a right to defend yourself against accusations - including facing your accuser.
Really? Gay has to play gay now? Who the actor has sex with has to match who the subject does?
I watched someone let their dog shit in my lawn and he didn’t bother to pick it up. I was standing in my driveway 30' away watching this. I told him to pick that shit up. He looked at me then turned and walked away. Luckily I had a shovel in hand, so I walked over to the pile, scooped it up, and catapulted it at him.…
Yeah, Robinson is a weird line to draw here... he tends to do more “structurally sound sketch comedy which frequently features an obnoxious shouting guy” than “obnoxious shouting guy for obnoxious shouting guy’s sake.”
The movie will apparently address Chris Pratt's lack of an Italian accent, even though Mario is from the Mushroom…
Wow can’t believe Chappelle killed a few trans people.
Good for them. Some people need to learn to re-separate “I don’t like this” from “I need to save everybody from this.”
Well, I actually watched the special. Here’s its list of sins, in my book:
“But instead of recognizing that Chappelle’s words are harmful to trans people, Sarandos doubled down.” - Nice even-handed reporting there. Good job on crossing the line from reporting to spin.
Good. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it.
He’s rich and has some privilege of his position as a titan of comedy? Otherwise, I got nothin. Because if you watch his specials, you know who he skewers the most: white people.
What makes someone “white adjacent”?
Chappelle makes jokes I don’t always agree with.
I work and live in queer spaces in an industry that is largely populated with LGTBQIA professionals. I make money and get my training from within queer social spaces. People spontaneously identify me as not fitting into normal gender expectations.
Even if this is about something bigger than a lot of hurt feelings (and frankly I don’t think it’s obvious that it is), this usage of “hate speech” stretches the term basically to the point of meaninglessness.
Counterpoint: the best moment in Kanye’s career is his rap in American Boy.
There are a lot of people criticizing Chapelle’s attempts at humor here. I can’t imagine anyone would argue that an entire group of people should be left alone - and deserve special treatment. All groups can be joked about...or should be.
everyone always laughs until it’s about them. i’m asian and don’t get offended about stupid jokes about us. this is what comedy is, laughing at mostly stupid things youre not supposed to laugh at. a generation of brittle spirits.
