Yamok Time.

Hmmm.
The Doctor's warning to the elder brother to remember how he has mistreated the younger one seems to have created a tangent (a la Back to the Future II) except the outcome here is positive rather than negative.
I suppose it makes as much sense as any of the other timey wimey stuff that happens on Doctor Who.

And the cinematography is the mvp.

The Doctor is just letting Tricky believe that he's an android when The Doctor knows otherwise.

If nerds can't be nitpicky in the TV club comments where can we be nitpicky?

I wouldn't say that 11 is a liar, not compared to, say, Garak.  More like he employs tactical untruths.

I think people's personal enjoyment of this episode will hinge on weather or not they can tolerate the idiocy of the Salvage Brothers plot.  In terms of quality those parts feel like they don't belong in the same episode as all the Tardisy goodness, impressive setting and interesting Doctor/Clara interactions.

I also love the concept and aesthetics of the Tardis*.  It's like the insane creation of Heath Robinson and M. C. Escher crossed with the Antikythera device.

The only issue, is a two partner with a massive reset at the end where no one remembers anything? Yeah, no.

I think I was once shown around Edinburgh Castle by the Panicky Tour-guide.  It was an entertaining experience…not very informative though.  Too much running from room to room to really take in the surroundings.

Clara picked up the umbrella in the room with the crib.  (she tossed it up and caught it in a way reminiscent of Victorian Clara from 'The Snowmen')

When you are a professional time traveller it is always useful to have an extremely unwieldy Koh-i-Noor powered anti werewolf telescope knocking around.  Just in case.

The guy was walking around for half the episode with a light bulb in his bag from the Tree of Making Stuff…right in front of the Doctor who had commanded him to put it back.  So the Doctor and the Tardis let him get away with it. What?  No one even mentioned it again!

Even though I think I liked this episode more than you did I agree with almost everything you find fault with.  Fortunately there was more than enough entertainment here for me to overlook the stop-start pacing and awkward salvage-brother storyline.

Yes "scuttling" is exactly the right word Prole Hole, you eloquent robot thing you.

Death (Terry Pratchett version)?

Wait..

Uh Oh.

Oh how I do yearn to be replanted in the rich podzol of my native pocket dimension next to my beloved.  No finer cultivar
