Man of Steel does not show the development of Superman. If it did, he would be completely different at the end of the film and during BVS. But he’s not. He starts the film moping and brooding and then the very next film, is he a shining example of truth and justice? Nope, he’s back to moping and brooding.

He saves the lives of pretty much every major character in all six movies, and he never makes a single mistake.

I mean, all those countries that celebrate Independence Days from the British didn’t break off without good reason. Except maybe America, fuck yo taxes, Great Britain. Tax deez nuts!

Not a single soul, young or old, needs to know Rudyard Kipling’s thinking or the time period of its writing in order to properly enjoy the story of a boy making animal friends. That’s not to say it isn’t valuable information nor that there should be no conversation about it, but to rail against this story as though

Bothan Commander: I’ve got a great feeling about this.

Bothan Commander: Alright, we’ve got the plans, but this is a tight spot. That’s okay, we’ve been through worse together. We just need to get through this blast door and we’re home free.

Mothma: You all did such a good job with the first Death Star plans. Now I need you to find the location of the Empires new battle station.

I want to make a post about Bothans because I’m amused at how many people are going through the comments about this trailer to make sure everyone knows that the Bothans were the second Death Star.

Who the hell is playing Mon Mothma? She looks so much like the original actress.

which almost perfectly applies to Ep. II and III Anakin??

My wife pointed out that he’s a lot like a school shooter, which is the most terrifying thing to our modern minds. In possession of a terrible weapon, driven by rage, but without a maturity to focus that rage accurately. It’s a truly fascinating take on a villain, and we get to see him evolve and change. I could even

I always thought that was the point of Kylo Ren. He wears a mask not because he needs to, but because it looks cool. He’s a wannabe and very insecure. He’s not supposed to be some badass. He may have power, but emotionally he’s very weak.

I just want to salute your use of nested parentheses! I’m weird that way.

At least the 2012 Olympics got the ending right...

I feel like this praise is fairly damning, really. It hits exactly on Snyder’s biggest flaw as a filmmaker: He is apparently capable of seeing deeper than the surface, but incapable of bringing his films there. Everything he does is beautiful to look at but ultimately superficial bullshit.

One thing I think is true about Watchmen and about every other comic book movie Zack Snyder has made is that he has never understood that Watchmen was a deconstruction of superhero tropes and not a guidebook.

Watchmen the film is Watchmen the comic as read and understood by a 13-year old boy whose only takeaway was the sex and violence.

In fairness, Alan Moore is a cantankerous old fart who denounces everything these days.

The difference being that Bruce Timm actually understands how to tell a dark story and build it up with character development and a cohesive plot. The only times Snyder has been capable of this was in straight adaptations of other people’s work, and even then the substance managed to get obscured by the style.
