How is the Catholic Church to remain relevant if abortion is a woman’s choice and little Catholics aren’t produced en masse? 

Nobody should try to tell others what to eat, or bully them about their choices. This usually is what vegans are accused of, but nobody mentions that the “You should add bacon to that vegan dish—everything’s better with bacon!” crowd are just as obnoxious.

“Compassionate Conservatism.”  Won’t someone think of the 1%? 

So he’s an opportunistic hypocrite who keeps his racism on the inside and speaks...compassionately...about his conservatism.

I’ll probably watch this anyway, but... no danger of doing that any time soon since I don’t have Hulu. Kind of a disappointing review — but hell. Good cast, great source material.

I don’t know how many times I’ve read Catch-22, but I’ve always imagined it would make a great miniseries... but only in capable hands.

I don’t think it’s that exactly. We definitely have a sense of superiority as a country (I think every country kind of does, though? I don’t know if you’ve ever been to France!) but the anti-EU thing wasn’t about us not being able to tell others what to do. It was 95% about the perception that others were telling us…

To be fair, i can see why the UK could have a problem with the EU. The UK doesn’t really get as much preferential treatment as Germany and France do as the big guys of the EU.

Much of that anti-EU bullshit seems to be built on a foundation of racism. Just as much of the “America First” rhetoric is not inherently racist until you look at it closely and realize, oh no, it’s all about racial prejudices and fear of the other.

Racism is overstated as a cause of Brexit. It’s definitely in the mix but the main cause has been the constant anti-EU bullshit in the press, and our willingness to believe it. They’ve gone on and on about “EU overreach” - with new fake stories appearing every day for decades - to the point where our continued EU…

I recognize one of those stories in the trailer. Looks like they’re doing the infamous murder of Ken McElroy, in my state of Missouri. This is the stuff of legend. McElroy was a notorious town bully who terrorized everyone, but always managed to skirt the law. Finally the townspeople got fed up, and he was gunned down…

I was wondering if I misremembered the trailer while reading that, because my reaction to it was “I like most of the cast, but I’m not into this Shutter Island nonsense” so to see it described as a straightforward neo-noir was weird. 

I’m shocked those muskrats couldn’t make it work.

Why couldn’t they have gone with Dragon & Tennille? Then they might have become a hard riffing prog metal act.
