There are a bunch of AV Club commenters who’ve been pretending for the last few days that this latest Lena Dunham fiasco isn’t racist. Their disdain for Dunham has been trumped by their own racism. It’s pretty sickening.

You know, I was reading these comments and sitting here thinking, wtf? The AV Club commenters always HATED her. I didn’t put two and two together. You’re right and I’m disgusted I didn’t realize it right away.

Oh look, a white person telling people of color that the racism they’re telling you they experience doesn’t exist...because you haven’t experienced it...as a white person.

Dunham has a pretty well documented history of racial issues. From her fetishism of black men to her show that essentially erasing all black people from New York. So when she says all rape victims are to be believed, except for this black girl who is clearly a liar and an extortionist, it’s certainly not out of line…

I find it fascinating that Lena Dunham, the AV Club commenters’ human punching bag, suddenly becomes someone to be protected at all costs when it’s a woman of color calling her out.

I think Lena Dunham has done more than her share of making enemies all by herself.

Dunham is exhausting. For all of her talent writing and acting - and fuck you, she was exceptional throughout Girls - she so regularly allows her narcissism and obliviousness overshadow her entire image.
