is this actually true (that the family would be in debt)? My understanding of contingency payments is that lawyers take a huge chunk of the eventual $$ (I think it’s usually around 1/3) in part because of the inherent risk (that they might make nothing).

what everyone else said. Whenever the possible outcome is money, lawyers will take the case then take 1/3 of what you earn (or whatever amount), if you earn it

in a weird way this reminds me of trump - not that as people they’re similar (I hope) just the way he does so many bizarre, weird things that you end up forgetting about most of them and just focusing on the latest thing. I forgot about that TOO.

yeah - at least, not in the sense the author implied. What people are holding against her isn’t class-related, as her foibles are not class-related, period. Jezebel does a disservice to people who are actually shaped by growing up in poverty by lumping them in with all this lying/falsifing ish.

I forgottt about that but yeah.... this is just the icing on the cake because she’s literally the grown-up version of a girl saying “I WANT A PONY!” despite children not having stables or the money to pay for vets and bales of hay

You have to remember that she graduated law school in 2004 - which means she enrolled in probably 02 or 03. A lot of schools (mostly smaller ones) are using outdated tech *today,* let alone nearly 20 years prior, so any confirmation system then was a bit easier to fake your way through, since any transcript was

exactly - there is a really malignant assumption in this piece.

yep. it was a huuuge reach because the only way you could write this article is by making very vague gestures towards class cues while also failing to explain why we should read her as poverty-stricken in the first place.

lmao I had almost the same thought - the comments on the last piece were similarly 96%“sorry but what are you smoking,” not agreeing, and as a writer I would be almost too embarrassed to continue in this way if I were aware of that

yeah, I agree with this read of the situation. Like you could get to the end of this Jezebel piece and feel reasonably sure she grew up dirt poor, even though there’s nothing to really indicate that. Like... she was working for Joe Biden very early on in her career. This isn’t a normal sign of being held back.

it feels weird that she even... responded to it? Like, it’s nice to apologize, but I almost feel like “why make this time and take up space talking about what you did 4 years ago?”

that’s not what I meant, no. Most of the instances I’ve seen have been documented publicly since they happened, people just didn’t care enough for it to be BAD for the company until now.

Can I say I am LOVING that everyone has been keeping receipts on the racist shit companies have done over the past few years, and now they’re coming receipt in hand to talk to the manager.

not super surprised from what I’ve seen in the FB group I’m in.

oh yeah, I forgot about that! Ugh. I get not needlessly propping people up, but Jezebel has been so catty towards women  lately

While I’m sitting here doing my day job I’m not emailing clients about BLM - granted, I never talk to clients so that would be super weird, but in most industries there’s not this expectation that we have to suddenly transform or *give up* (because even if you use your Youtube platform to talk about BLM, are you

I would be 100% not shocked if he exaggerated the # once people on social media were like wtf,

I feel like it’s a little trendy RN for advice columns to be kinda mean and this one was so eager to be mean that they misread the question

doubt it lol... people don’t hire management companies b/c they’re bothered about talking to tenants. They do it b/c it’s a huge hassle to try to find a contractor, a plumber, or whatever and ensure the job gets done when you’re 800 miles away.

I feel like this didn’t really answer what the asker was asking? I don’t think they’re asking permission to be a narcissist?
