Why would you feel bad? I have thick and naturally curly hair. I too went to Jamaica as a kid, and having my hair braided like that for a week was awesome. For once my wild hair was under control. I don't think anyone is saying white girls can't wear their like this, just acknowledge where the tradition came from.

I think they (the white peoples) call them ‘boxer’ braids because a lot of female boxers do it to keep their hair out of their faces when fighting. They mean cornrows, not the box braids you talk about.

To be fair I think there’s a distinction between saying “ghetto” and saying a shitty neighbourhood or a tenement.
