You are literally functionally illiterate. There is not one time where I said I had a problem with women being there. I’m sorry you are too stupid to continue this conversation.

The change in acts? Afropunk was ALWAYS an “alternative” festival than an actual punk festival because it’s not 1977 or 1981 or 1985 anymore. Unless you think Apollo Heights, Kudu, and Keziah Jones and playing the film Cry of Jazz are punk. There’s an imagined history of what this festival was. If you honestly don’t

Who else would I be speaking for?

I get this. The fact that someone with as mediocre of a rap voice as Kendrick has gotten this far is fucking outstanding. I say this as someone who is extremely high up on Kendrick even if the double-time rap he does all the time now feels gimmicky in a way that Busta never did.

I don’t have a problem with women being there. When most people complain about the change in audience they almost always are implicitly saying women

Not blaming women. That was just the choice they made. Outside of pop punk, the punk scenes are not friendly to most people that are not heterosexual males

To be fair to them there is a lot of consistent quality activism and engagement. So it wasn’t just a cash grab

Well to be frank they traded black punk for black feminism. There’s no way there would be near as many women if it was a straight punk festival

Women?

Yes. Afropunk is cool now. There are other fests like FlyLo’s The Low End Theory, but it doesn’t market it’s blackness at the forefront so no one covers it down though Brainfeeder has been making some of the best and most progressive music and videos situated in black art the last decade or so. To just give 1 example.

Music. From the documentary about being black in predominantly white spaces

What *is* even punk music in 2017? I know kids still listen to pop-punk and Green Day did good numbers last year. But what does punk even sound like? Death Grips is the last exciting punk-esque music I can name. They already performed here though.

Eh, Afropunk isn’t ‘82 DC but nothing is. There’s far too much rnb and rap at Afropunk sure definitely. It doesn’t help that black bands don’t get any burn anywhere. Benjamin Booker playing during Tidal’s one live concert is the last time a black rock artist was in front of a large black viewing audience.

Hitachis really are undefeated

lmao

THE RETURN OF AGATHA. PRAISE THE SUN!

Everything except for Drake is excellent here

I really do hope that there are young Black women reading this honestly so they know that they’re not alone with how they feel about their bodies. That 1st step of no longer feeling isolated with whatever your problem might be is an essential one. Appreciate you for being kind and brave enough to share this Shamira.

Shout out to Broderick Hunter for his acting debut and Lawrence needs some vitamins and vegetables with his weak stamina. Then to lie on top of it? Man.

Not sure why there has to be a dichotomy between either a fem man or a masc man being represented. As if the entirety of gay Black men can be simply boiled down to one of those two categories.
