If I recall, people are looking for new ways to standardize the kilogram because that weight will, over time, lose mass. Since the kilogram has to be a kilogram... it would be really nice if the mass doesn't change overtime, no matter how small.

@rathat: The ones you hear on the streets are the local or some other dialect. The one you hear for the news is the "clean" proper version since... there is just so many different dialects in China.
