I did as similar mod on my 2004 R32 but used a threeway switch: Baffles always 1)On 2)Off or 3)stock (baffles open at 3500rpm). Believe it or not, on some longer road trips I did use the always on option (the quiet one).

This method has nothing to do with clutch interlock which interrupts circuit to starter motor.
