The performance review that led to that raise and bonus specifically referenced the fact that “Don Sanders is no longer working for BNSF” and the reduction in slow orders.

Perhaps this is an industry (one among many) that should pay the Federal government a per train/per mile of track fee to cover the expense of the Federal government employing Federal train inspectors?

It’s interesting, I’ve worked as a contractor at a BNSF yard here in Minneapolis and those guys were all about safety.  To the point where they mandated earplugs AND muffs.. the joke was the higher-ups didn’t want you to hear the train before it ran you over.

You don’t need a university to do that if the crime is reported to police and the police act on that report. I am not saying that criminal protection orders work all the time but they have more teeth…

It’s not just misalignment of incentives - we’re talking about a crime where there is often no physical evidence that something more than a consensual encounter occurred.  There’s a reason police forces have specialized departments for dealing with sexual assault, and asking some college administrator to take on that…

Gosh maybe educational bodies shouldn’t be tasked with meting out justice in matters where their incentives could become misaligned?

I wonder if a lower stakes treatment model of sexual assault would generate a better results. If we want men to recognize how they have violated the bodily autonomy of others, they must first understand how their own bodily autonomy has been violated. The problem in our culture is that men are not allowed to feel bad…
