Maybe. Whether she misspoke or not, her teaching methods are suspect. With young minds in their care, teachers have a major responsibility AND they should be culturally/socially competent.

I’m wondering if they even bother to glance at the source material, thinking they already know what they know (nothing) and that it was all in the past anyway so it’s not relevant to today’s societies.

Teaching is a profession that truly does, hopefully, tap into the better aspects of theatricality. In other words, compose your script, make sure it’s factually accurate and then practice practice practice, anticipating any questions the students might have.

Oh, and also they got kids out here doing slavery yoga poses and shit.

*I know polka dot people don’t exist...or do they???

Seriously. While the continent was not divided into the countries we know today, it did have various states that the European traders worked with in the 16th and 17th centuries. Most of these just did not survive European “colonization”.

Why do so many of y’all keep trying it with these stupid-ass slavery activities instead of just utilizing the month to teach more Black history than you normally would?

This whole situation is her fault? How convenient for so many people who might also have been held responsible.

It can’t help but seem like a bus-chucking when it’s framed as her choosing whether or not people starve - that is way beyond her pay grade. She has been trusted by both parties, for a long time, to be an impartial referee. She did her job (that alone should get her some credit, compared to so many other people

She merely pointed out that they weren’t following their own rules.  So in all likelihood all she did is prevent a court challenge would could have held up and/or invalidated the whole thing.

Slightly off topic: who are the 40% of Americans who oppose a living wage? What’s that, 80 million adults?

We make so little in the south that 15 dollars an hour is considered an extremely well paying job, and most people here regard paying “fast food” workers that much as an insult. It’s popular nationally, but not in our brainwashed red states, where we vote against our own interests.

It was a bridge too far for this bill.  Sorry, but it was too much to try and push through.  I agree we need the increase, etc, but now is not the time.

Yeah you’re right. I gotta stop skimming. It’s a bad habit. I kinda see the distinction being drawn but, Wanda Sykes was a woman with her own late night network talk show. I guess adding a qualifier like ‘nightly’ talk show host would have helped grease my brain gears, but I get it.

The article goes into quite a bit of detail regarding numerous other hosts who kind of sort of but not really had late night slots. Sykes’s show was only on on Saturday nights, which in my opinion (and in Tonja’s too, I guess) does not really make her a late night host if the comparison is with Carson, Leno,

Good, she’s been a gem ever since i first saw her she  doing the “Amber says What “ segments for Seth Meyers. I probably can’t tune in but I’ll make sure to give all the clicks/YouTube views like usual.

Now playing

Her recent segment on white history month is a must see. I hope she does well.

Speaking of The Late Show, its former host, Joan Rivers was the last woman to host her own network late night show in over 30 years until Lilly Singh debuted A Little Late With Lilly Singh in 2019.”
