University structure, funding and everything else is very different from typical for-profit work (even for-profit universities).  Similarly, working for state government tends to be really different.  And while there are some benefits, there are also a lot of negatives.  Sounds like you’re in a situation where it fits…

I see younger people with better skill sets once in a while. I’m a CIO in a law firm and it’s a real thing there, at least. That said, I’ve never booted someone over it, though I have promoted someone with fewer years of experience because they had the soft skills to manage people.

While I agree with all you are saying, I also have had such negative experiences with unions that I don’t know if I’d join one if I was in a position where it were possible.

What did you switch to?

I don’t know how many of the options it saves in each profile, but the amount of configuration/personalization on the M X340i is insane. Felt like dozens of settings could be tweaked. And as I scrolled through them on my friend’s car the first thing I thought was, “How many save slots do you get?”

Some people will go through great lengths to add a few HP to a modified sports car. I love that other sub-communities do similar things when they’re done with the big mods and are scraping for the tiny gains.  It’s really neat to see what comes out of it.

Eh. I daily a Jeep Wrangler for most of the winter and I find the seats quite a bit better than in that car. When I say cushy, I don’t mean La-Z-Boy squishy, I mean some give in the padding. The X3 felt like a leather wrapping over a tshirt-thick pad strapped to plywood.

A friend of mine just got an X3 M40i (I think). Whatever it is, it’s insanely loaded. The gesture controls for the radio are straight up ridiculous but the side lights when you open the doors and AR 360 are kind of neat.
