.45ACP or 10mm Auto are not “similar stopping power” to .50AE. A normal loading for .45ACP is 400-500 ft-lbs muzzle energy, even a +P loading is generally under 600 ft-lbs.

The stack is pretty easy. Layers, though, layers trip me up pretty hard. And don’t even try to explain how banding worked, I’ve given up on actually understanding it.

For those who may be interested:

I expect the Russians would have similar sorts of trouble in high heat. An average Siberian summer day is in the 60-70F range. Chicago routinely gets 90F+ midsummer days.

Aw yeah, look at that affine texture swim. Beautiful - and by beautiful, I mean ugly as hell. Everyone seems to forget that PS1 texture mapping did that wonky distortion. I see they even tried to do that trick with subdividing polygons to minimize the swim, but left the triangles big enough for it to still be visible.

We must be in opposite timezones or something, because I missed all of those but Castlevania. Which I found good but not really outstanding - I guess I’ve just seen too many SotN runs, like the awesome blindfolded one at GDQx.

I’m torn between LttP and Sonic 1 as “best run” (at least from the runs I caught). Both are must-watch for anyone interested in speedrunning.

I missed that one live - I took the chance to sleep between Sunshine and Puyo Puyo Tetris. I’m glad to hear that was a good one - I was a bit worried it would be boring, due to the sheer length.

This year’s AGDQ was pretty good. I watched as much of it as I could, there were a lot of great runs.

It’s a large, high-profile event in the gaming community that specifically tries to be minority-friendly, with lots of female, LGBT, or other diverse runners. Of course all the racists, sexists and homophobes are trying to discredit it by manufacturing controversies. “Might have its share of controversy” is

Oh neat, didn’t know they’d started that up. Again. Isn’t this like the third time they’ve looked into better engines? And every time, they’re like “oh, we’re only going to be using this for like ten more years at most, an upgrade isn’t really worth it”.

The majority of most jets’ propulsion comes from the fan. That’s because the fan is the most fuel-efficient source of thrust in a jet engine. But it’s also the least effective at higher and higher speeds.

“Casualty” is still correct, as the term includes fatalities, injuries, and missing persons. Since a lot of bodies are never found, it’s normal to use “casualty” in this context, as it’s still possible (though unlikely) some of the crash victims are alive, and just not found.

If it’s below 3C or so, my Fiat will beep at me when I turn it on to warn me that there might be ice on the road. Does the same thing if it drops that low while driving.

This is because Doom wasn’t “pixel art”. They were low-res, like pixel art, but they were digitized images - photos of some clay sculptures that had been made. There was some editing done later (all the possessed were made by editing the Doomguy images, a lot were recolored as well) but there’s an underlying

That’s actually part of the origin of the word, though - it’s one of the very few English words whose origin can be traced back to Mongolic, coming from Mongolian “ordu”, to Russian “orda”, Polish “horda”, German “Horde”, French “horde”, and then finally into English. Words tend to retain some of their etymology as

Correction: paragraph 3, sentence 3, should be using “hoard”, not “horde”. A horde is a large group of roving marauders, esp. Mongols, or more generally any large, semi-organized mass of people. A hoard is a stored and hidden stockpile, usually of valuables or money.

GOG’s lineup isn’t quite as good. Other than The Witcher (developed by the same people as GOG), what AAA titles do they have? I see Darksiders III... and a bunch of old 2K games. No Civilization newer than IV, no XCOM 2. And that seems to be it.

Price might be a way.

That happened before because it was AAA publishers realizing it would be cheaper to do their own distribution, but not seeking to actually compete with Steam as a for-profit distributor. So Origin just had EA games, Battle.net just had Blizzard/Activision games, Uplay just had Ubisoft games, while Steam had basically
