For years I thought the bus driver in the Simpsons was called Auto. It seemed logical for a character whose main purpose was to drive. Also, the US pronunciation of the name threw me.

Is it likely the trucks are being abandoned in random locations because the thieves think they may be fitted with trackers? That’s a sensible strategy if so – if no law enforcement shows up in the first 48 hours or so they know they’re safe.

Not me, but my girlfriend was taught by her instructor to pull up the handbrake EVERY DAMNED TIME she stops, even on perfectly level roads. It drives me mad when I’m her passenger, especially as our car (an E91) has a hill hold function so you don’t even need the handbrake for hill starts.
