That literally makes no sense at all. If a woman doesn’t want to be pregnant, and doesn’t have the resources to end the pregnancy, then doesn’t it seem MORE likely that she would resort to measures like this? Like, if abortion is a safe, legal, affordable, accessable, viable option, wouldn’t that reduce the number of

I believe it was Judge Judy who commented that a lot of sadness came from unintended pregnancies: it would be better if universal contraception was the norm, and people could then reliably choose when and if to get pregnant. Orwellian implications aside, she has a point.

I feel the same way. Let's not make raising kids more classist than it already is. Let's try to give all children (and parents) equal education and healthcare instead.

I for sure would have been taken away from my family for my dad’s drug relapses or depression when my parents had to “renew their child license”.

This is what we want: Women to be able to have pregnancy prevention easily available, and if that fails, or complications occur we want women to have a safe and humane way to end a pregnancy. This does not include giving birth to a child and then murdering it in horrific ways such as this.

Ok but the problem is that you even think this is OK as a not-very-serious hypothetical. It’s not.

Please don’t make such a blanket statement. I worked with many child protective workers when I was a Guardian ad Litem volunteer, and I saw the whole spectrum: those who merely viewed it as a way to get a paycheck but performed their job duties reasonably well, and those who sucked as humans (and sucked at their

No, we can’t force people to take tests and pay fees to get a license to have kids. It just would never work.

That’s not a good analogy, buddy. You just pay $12 for a license to fish, there are no requirements of fishing competency or anything.

Look how well psych evals work on vetting future police officers.

Even if the kid was stillborn, it’s still not OK to throw human remains out of a window onto a street below where people are walking. We humans generally practice a bit more reverence in that department. This is some super fucked up shit here.

Totally want to look up that video. But, if you’ve ever had hamsters...the babies are born, and then just randomly start disappearing, because the parents will eat them. You have to remove the male hamster for it to stop.

There are plenty of people out there who definitely SHOULD NOT have children. That’s just a fact. And it’s not about income. Plenty of rich people abuse and neglect their kids and plenty of poor people are fantastic parents. It’s about basic human decency and having the ability to care for a child responsibly and yes,

Well, we do have a system now where CPS takes away kids from homes they determine to be abusive - tho’ the system is far from perfect. Some investigations don’t get done and kids die; conversely some foster homes contain abusers. It’s awful, but I know realistically it isn’t possible to create a perfect, failsafe

I saw the most disgusting comment about this awful story yesterday - some asshat pro-birther asked, “Isn’t that what you pro-choice people want? People to be able to get rid of a baby if they don’t want it?”

To do the science on this though, we would have to study elephants in elephant houses with windows. It is unfair when the window isn’t an option.

Word. I just watched a video of an elephant mom whose newborn calf wasn’t breathing, so she kicked it gently and massaged it with her trunk util it picked its head up and took a breath.

That’s the first day’s lesson in parenting class.

I mean, you don’t even need a ceremony or burial, you just need to not throw it out a window.

Of course that’s what you do with a stillborn baby, just throw it out the window? No grieving, no ceremony/burial?
