That genuinely made me laugh - brilliant! As I mentioned to someone else this kind of behaviour should really be filed under ‘mostly harmless,’ but until you’ve rubbed shoulders with this kind of arrogance and self-entitlement, you have no idea how awful this class of person can actually be...

I guess I’m showing my age because I actually had to go and look that reference up!

You may well be right. I was fortunate enough to blag my way into a very good university, back in the days when the government paid us to go there, and I don’t think I ever forgot where I was. Ever.

When I was at university (UK - late ‘80s), a couple of students drove these in a way I can only describe as ‘ironically.’ It’s hard to do this with any car, but these areseholes managed.

Trump should man-up and get Cadillac to build him a Ciel. From the back of the best convertible, the biggest convertible, he can wave to the adoring crowds.

Ah, I see your point now. Silverstone was making a profit but is now heavily in debt due to the owners’ decision to accommodate F1. This, you could fairly argue, is a poor business decision on the part of the track and it’s almost impossible to dispute from a logical, hard-nosed standpoint.

There is zero... zero risk to Trump with this strategy and it will mean we can all look forward to buying a Ciel in ten to twelve years time when they’ve hit the bottom of the depreciation curve.

I think this is the first time in living memory that a President could actually consider going back to a motorcade, waving from a convertible to the crowds, and be perfectly safe doing so.

The interior reminds me of a 1930s radio set in a ‘gentleman’s private study’, but it’s a nice place to be.

Damnit. I even own Eats, Shoots and Leaves. I frown at people who seemingly type out a random stream of consciousness with zero punctuation or thought given (it’s not difficult) and yet here I stand, hoisted by my own petard.

I could recommend so many, but the Macintyre books are so easy to get into, even if you’re not a war history enthusiast. It’s the kind of writing that keeps the history alive and not consigned to a a dusty shelf somewhere in a museum archive.

We Brits were the main peddlers of this kind of random nonsense until the closing days of the War when the Germans really took over the baton. That said, there’s plenty in the US WWII history books that is just as strange. It’s a shame this kind of knowledge is gradually being lost to all but lovers of history.

Likewise. We cancelled our satellite subscription many years ago due to the spiral of death that is reality tv. But back then, the History Channel introduced me to the amazing story of the Battle for Castle Itter and many other events that are starting to fade from collective memory and were known only to real history

You’ve missed the point on this one. It’s not about attendance - it’s about revenue vs. hosting costs. The Silverstone grand prix is always sold out, but it doesn’t generate enough in ticket revenue (pretty much the only revenue they’re allowed to keep aside from a few ice creams) to compensate for the costs of

The book of the same name, “Operation: Mincemeat,” (Ben Macintyre - Times writer) is by far the best way to delve into this story. The documentaries are great for inspiring people to seek out further information but I often wonder how many people actually do.

What Ford marketing wants you to see:

It’s basically the same car underneath I believe, just cursed with the finest Lucas electrical system Birmingham could supply on a cold, damp, windy day in the UK.

These are much better than everyone remembers. It’s essentially a Japanese car, originally ruined by a British electrical system and poor rust-proofing, but all of them still on the road will have had the troublesome bits removed and reliable replacements installed, often from Acuras.

There’s an old saying in the military - “Any fool can be uncomfortable....”

The GMC has become a bit of a design icon and rightly so. The trick to getting an affordable one is to buy a basket case and use your own time sorting it out. Not many left that haven’t been restored though.
