I don’t fit a Mini as I’m a normal, slim 5' 10" person. I’m assuming you’re a normal person too and just put up with the driving position because you love it so much!

It’s got to be a military or a diplomatic import, but my money would be on the former from Germany.

The wealthiest people in my.. erm.. country.. drive Defenders.

What we should be agreeing on is that you have won this thread. Forget the 12 year old German machines, you nailed it. If you are not #1 in the results I will be sending Tavarish some NOS Lucas electric relays for his next project.

I’m not sure why you keep trying to undermine your original, excellent choice of an early Range Rover with bottom-of-depreciation-curve Mercedes limos.

I don’t doubt you for a second, but Freddy is asking for people to post ‘wannabee’ cars that give the illusion of wealth. The person you know who bought the S Class bought it *new* - that’s the key. Everyone else is offering up second hand examples which will throw a CEL, or other myriad issues within weeks of buying

Yup, you’ve understood this 100% in my book. ‘Money’ does not advertise itself in silly supercars - that’s what Paris Hilton does. Money also does not buy gently ageing S-classes and 7-series, or out-of-style Maseratis, 12 year old Porsches or 1970s Rolls Royces.

No, they wouldn’t. It’s rusty and grubby, but I have left you $23k for cosmetic restoration if you need to impress someone in a queue at an exclusive nightclub. Of course, queues are for peasants, so who cares?

The W123, especially in estate/wagon form is still the choice of vehicle for many large estate holders in the UK. If I see one of those on the road, I’m wondering how much of the country they own, but I suspect that this doesn’t work in the USA!

I’m chancing it, I know. Every man and his dog will be posting an old Rolls, an old Porsche or a tired S-Class, something like that.

This is a great choice of car. Best engine (the 4.4), nice colours for a beachy-type location, low miles, dirt cheap.

I can do this for under seven thousand of your American dollars, bought, shipped, tax paid and, hurray, legal.

The only label I would apply to you is ‘Egyptian.’ Be proud of it - look at what your country has given the world. That is all. No condescending comments about history and science; you are far more aware of what your nation has given to society than most people who would comment here.

This is the way to get into aviation. I’m not suggesting every potential airline pilot starts a metal band but find a career you enjoy that pays well and use the money from that to fund your addiction.

My apologies for the tardy reply - I commute to Asia for work these days and it’s a bit of a slog. I’m also certain this is why my wife and children are still happy to see me when I come back from work!

I don’t consider myself a gamer, but I am very interested in the international affordability argument for all media, so your post stood out to me (this article was headlined on Jalopnik).

Sure, but most suburban or city schools have the same issue as in the US - parents too paranoid to let their little snowflake on the bus, so the road outside the school turns into a parking lot of ridiculous 4x4s twice a day, jamming up traffic for miles.

I met my wife on deployment many years ago. She is a Texan and years of UK living haven’t dulled her accent. I suspect this is why I always feel obliged to post on these UK/USA issues. It’s not a competition - never has been.

Spain does not need a deterrent. I am happy to pay to protect Spain, along with our French counterparts, because we’re sometimes a bit too serious about everything in Europe.

I would love to write a book about that particular theatre, just because there are so many hugely amusing and also human stories that arose in what was something really quite unpleasant. I am not sure I have the dedication or the... tact... required to pull this off without pinning various amusing incidents on actual
