I love VPump and RHOBH but I don’t fall for the whole Lisa is queen nonsense. It drives me crazy how she cultivates this image of her being this super hard worker constantly with her nose to the grind (especially in VPR) when in reality she married Ken Todd when she was 20 years old after he was already an established

I love these shows for the escapism aspect. I work all day teaching history and government, I tutor kids after work, and I go to graduate school in the evenings where we discuss social change and current events nonstop. By the time I get home at night, I need to just turn off my brain and be entertained for a bit.

This is annoying of me but I’ll ask - I started to watch Shameless and in the very beginning, when the dad was describing the family, they show a little kid holding a cat next to a blow torch in his room. I was super horrified and turned it off. I’d like to watch the show, but is there cruelty to animals in it?

I’m always going to be one of the few people defending Girls. I think the show is great. There are moments in the show that feel so real and relatable its insane.

*Sobs* Last year my dad offered to pay for a teeth cleaning because I hadn’t gone in 3 years. Of course, I had 4 cavities. Of course, I wasn’t going to make my dad pay for the fillings, so of course, I paid a lot of money (no dental insurance) to fix it all up. I now get my teeth cleaned every 5 months and pay for it

For sure, I was of course initially upset about having to go to Trump’s Inauguration but I’m looking forward to the week. I am really excited for my students to just get to observe and be a part of such a serious and historic time. They’ve got a great mindset, they’re all very excited.

I think its going to be full of people from all different political affiliations. Example - I’m a high school teacher and I’ll be there chaperoning 46 high schoolers while they explore D.C. for the week and attend Inauguration. The trip was set up a while ago and I agreed to chaperone when I thought the results would

Exactly, I feel like people calling her a feminist are literally saying that simply because she’s a working woman. Its 2017, almost every woman works. Doesn’t make all of them feminist.

I love Erika and Eileen both so much! Can see myself having a drink with them.

“It all began with him pontificating about Lee Harvey Oswald’s possible innocence like a jackass and bragging about showing the “have nots” the finer things in life.” I...um...okay...

You make a very good point. I forget sometimes that I operate in circles that are heavily social justice oriented and that racism and social issues are things I am constantly discussing.

Someone called me a racist recently and even though it was in a heated and personal situation, I still took it to heart and tried to examine how my actions could be racist. I think that as a white American, there is definitely racism within me that has been ingrained from society, and that its my job to deconstruct

My racist uncle posted on Facebook “I think calling someone a ‘racist’ is way more offensive than anything Trump has ever said.”

See, I find this so interesting. When people ask me “what” I am, I respond with “I’m American.” I strongly identify as American. I’m a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, I love U.S. history, I teach U.S. government and U.S. history to high schoolers, I try to utilize my background and history of

I’d argue that “white” doesn’t have a culture since it is a race, but as a white American, I definitely think there is an “American” culture, and I don’t mean NASCAR and burgers.

But also the simple fact that sometimes elderly care is really damn difficult and they have to be in a facility. My grandma’s dementia is so bad that she simply has to live in an assisted living facility because its the only way she’ll remain safe. We love her to death and visit her all the time, and we hate having to

For real, my grandma is completely beloved by everyone in the family but her dementia is so bad that she has to be in an assisted living facility.

This is an incredible piece. It perfectly captures the feelings of singlehood without falling too hard in either direction. Being single is not great, and its not terrible. It just is. And its so hard to live in a society that is built around coupledom when you’re very single.

I think its so cool to be living in a golden age of something. I’m dead serious. I teach history and minored in American studies, and I keep thinking how in the future people will look back on the popular culture of this time period and think “golden age of television.”

Exactly, it is such a “lose/lose” situation. I usually stay quiet during these debates because yes, I am a white person, and I know that my input isn’t needed for many discussions surrounding race, but this debate is really bothering me because it seems non-sensical to me. When white people in entertainment ignore
