When I interned at disneyworld, they told us about gators and bodies of water in orientation. To keep us safe from the fake ponds and lakes in our Disney owned apartment complex. And they also told us to run in a zig zag pattern if one is chasing you on land—-not sure if that really works though. Disney has a look to

I feel like my grandma ordered through an Avon-like situation when I was little. Nowadays, their distribution is probably more in line with competitors—- although I don’t think ive ever seen them in a department store, or a drugstore. But I don’t remember ebony ever having a form to fill out to send away for a fashion

This same exact sick feeling washed over me today. I just can't believe that he has any kind of chance of becoming our president.

When I was her age, Rebecca Schaefer, was killed by a stalker. I’d watched every episode of My Sister Sam and sometimes she’d show up in YM or seventeen in a really cool hat or something, so I followed her closer than I realized. It was a heartbreaking intro to the violence of the real world.

Unfortunately, I’m willing to bet that a family friend (who probably owns a company or is a vp someplace) already has a job directly related to his major lined up for him for when he “comes back from his trip away”

Yes, I still struggle with understanding this after years and years to process it. To assault me and go on with his day to day life, my rapist separated himself from his actions and was just a violent, ugly, mentally ill man. There’s no way for me to understand his actions, they were just the actions of a very sick,

Yeah, it’s the kind of thing where my parents DID have to live in different parts of the city at different times in the 50s through 70s and they made sure that their kids would not ever have to. I have cousins who were born and raised in west philly and north philly and we had completely different upbringings,

My parents went to a party once 20 or 30 years ago where he was doing some serious damage to a half slab of ribs. It was like a New Years party or something thrown by the family that runs the Tribune (black newspaper) they still talk about it.

And I can hear the philly accent in my head while I read this. Sigh.

Lol. I'm glad to see I'm not alone :)

No, I’m in the northern suburbs. Never lived in the city proper—born in the suburbs, lived in Massachusetts and DC for a while and now back in the philly suburbs. I guess the suburbs are a bubble, so I wouldn’t disagree with you on that. because you can visit the good parts of the city on a weekend and leave the rest.

More “Rocky-ish” “mummer-ish” than mob. Irish? I was a little kid in the late 70s and south philly was an area where we NEVER went (as black suburban people) but I had lots of interactions with the mummerish Rocky-ish types otherwise.

Wow! That’s crazy—From his accent, I thought he was a Philly guy. Hmm, I need to reevaluate this, but my explanation of Chris Matthews still stands.

Rendell, not unlike Chris Matthews are a type of ‘born and raised in Philadelphia and filled with anachronistic ideas about women and people of color’ that othe Philadelphians just kind of shake their heads and chuckle about. Like your old racist great uncle who says crazy things at the dinner table.

It’s targeting people who have poor credit and cannot get a checking account. But it also targets people who may not have a history of using banks in their family, so even though they have done or okay credit, and they would qualify for traditional bank accounts, they aren’t familiar with banks and do not use them.

Shouldnt this read “sexual abuse of a young child”?

The GESTURE they are using is a political gesture. Look for pictures of the 1968(?) summer olympics for a similar use of this gesture.

IN UNIFORM...yes. The uniform is the property of the US Military. If you are wearing it and making ANY political type of statement (like a black power fist) or holding up a sign asking for single payer healthcare, you are breaking the rules established by the military that you promised to follow when you joined.

The military “sets the mold” for behavior of their soldiers.

Because shaving heads to raise money for cancer research or victims isn’t political. If they held up signs saying that the US government doesn’t do S**T for Cancer Research, they would get in trouble.
