I know a couple that showed the video to their 5 year old —and he had a meltdown when the garter was thrown and he said something like “I didn’t like the part where Daddy took off part of your leg and threw it at the other men” so there’s a bit of entertainment value in them, I guess.

Maybe the duggar girls participation will help to wake them the f*ck up about their victimization—but if they try to go onto an education show about sexual abuse and say the same ‘not a big deal, not molestation, prayer is awesome and we forgave him’ stuff, that’s going to take the cause of survivors a dozen steps

My brother in law is white and when he and my (black) sister were apartment hunting, he started going out solo for viewings. He was shocked and very sad to see that it made a difference in the places he was shown and the way some landlords talked to him. My sister was not surprised at all :( you'd think in the 21st

Thank you so much for this post. I reported my rapist (an elementary teacher), pressed charges and went through a successful preliminary hearing but from there onward the case was an absolute nightmare between disrespectful behavior from the DA office (amusingly, the same DA office that handled this 2005 Cosby case)

My mouth is on the floor with these hair pictures! HOW was she even getting straight blond hair to do these things? Especially the ‘shrinkage curls’ Is there really enough sebastian styling mud still available in the world to make this possible?

I THINK she has adopted black children—-but I only read that in one source, so it could be wrong.

This one is just a bit baffling to me. She could have gone to the same schools and done all of the same work without the strange race passing situation. I used to work at Georgetown U and while I was there, a white student headed the NAACP chapter there, she had always been right in the center of black students, and

I think if people are a generation removed from the soldiers who fought, they may not “get” the purpose of that monument. I was 8 when we went to visit it in 1983 and my dad was looking for names of his friends too—-so in my head, that monument has always been there for people who were close to someone who died in

I went to grad school at the smithsonian and as soon as cherry blossom season hit, omg. STAND on the right people...not everybody using smithsonian metro station is on vacation...some of us are trying to get to class!

Yep, I was thinking that TLC will use this to take the “outrage temperature” of the duggar audience. The duggar contracts MUST give TLC approval over any statement or interview. I can’t look at one more silly ‘side hug’—the girls practically have arranged marriages —they get pregnant a week or two after their first

My rapist is close to 80 years old by now and reading this gave me such a mean streak that I hope he’s equally impaired.

It actually made me smile to hear that it isn’t macys. :) off topic a bit, but I live in philly where there were maybe 6 distinct dept stores downtown when I was a little kid. And now? There’s just Macys because they bought everything and closed everything except for their one downtown location

That actually works. I’m sure there’s an Anthropologie model somewhere in the same thing.

It’s so funny, nowadays the only department store in most places really seems to be Macy’s—-since they bought out nearly every surviving US department store over the last 30 years, so every time I saw “The Department Store” I just read as “Macy’s”.

They used this quote on a Hallmark card in Maya Angelou’s hallmark card series 10 years ago (a dear friend gave it to me) so maybe she just said it a lot? Still, there are much stronger real quotes they could have used, and a picture of her at the top of her writing career in the 70s would have been much better too.

I read this as someone who understands what white privilege looks like especially when dealing with law enforcement—- and who is and who is not protected by it.

of course Kinja ate my first reply. Let me try again. First, I'm nearly 40 so I use the term little old lady with humor—- Madonna has rarely moved from 1991 or so, while the entire world moved forward—Madonna is doing her same old thing that she always does, she doesn't move forward and by now, it doesn't work and she

I want to double dog dare someone to mock that up and tweet it to her. Ugh.

I totally see the next one. Mike brown, black licorice and #rebelheartlivesmatter

Basquiat is the one pass I'll give her because they dated and were friends —— the rest of this is so very... Madonna. I was 9 when Like a Virgin came out and I remember the wannabes and the section of Macys with wannabe clothes and her early craziness and attention grabbing behavior How is it possible that we all grew
