Yeah, but enough of a majority of Californians voted for it.

CA is usually pretty sensible when it comes to social issues (Prop 8 notwithstanding, but I think most of us are pretty embarrassed about that by now). Abortion especially—every major election there’s some attempt to limit abortion rights through the initiative system, and it never succeeds.

I’m pretty sure Isabella Rosselini can do whatever she wants, mainly because if someone tries to stop her she might show up dressed like a whale penis or something.

Let me tell you a story of working at a Starbucks in a predominantly Spanish-speaking neighborhood and the word “cappuccino” meaning “Frappuccino,” “vanilla latte” (like the “cappuccino” you get at Denny’s), and even just plain “iced latte,” but never, EVER an actual cappuccino. I made one of my coworkers teach me the

Some people would thank me, and, to be fair, the majority didn’t have any problem showing ID, but enough make a stink about it that it’s kind of a pain. We even had people call in later to complain.

Interesting, I didn’t know that. It was policy at the time where I worked to check ID unless the card was signed. I can’t say everyone did it, but I always did.

Yeah I went through Del Taco last night and ended up with three random extra tacos (there was no one in the drive through after me), so I don’t know what to tell you.

I don’t know about servers, but cashiers in most places don’t ask for ID because of the large minority of people who get pissy when they do. When I worked as a cashier I used to make a point of asking for ID all the time, and at least a couple of times a day I would get someone who was absolutely OFFENDED that I

I have tap-and-pay on my debit card (in the US), but every time I’ve tried to use it it’s been declined, even though the card works perfectly when I swipe it the normal way. So I don’t use it.

10/10 would watch a million times.

I’m really confused about their focus on ectopic pregnancy, if their goal is to keep you from getting an abortion. Especially the “you’re still abortion-minded, even if you happen to be tubally pregnant?” Like, ESPECIALLY if I happen to be tubally pregnant, dude. I imagine the procedure would have to be different, but

I know that, but they’re often used that way, especially in the context of burgers.

What did it say?

I’m glad that quote brings up the point about the business owners. Boycotting small businesses because we don’t like how they treat their labor can backfire, I think. It’s not wrong, per se, but I live in southern California, where the vast majority of nail techs are Vietnamese women with poor English skills, and at

High five. I tip well when I can anywhere because 1.) I’m a dirty socialist, and people who work for tips usually don’t make a ton of money, even if they are making minimum wage or above, so if I have enough there’s no reason for me not to share it, and 2.) tip money from Starbucks paid for my (admittedly very simple)

I don’t know whether the woman gets anesthesia (I would assume so, but I’ve never had one), but the comment was suggesting anesthesia for the fetus, since one of the big straw-men that anti-choicers use in the US is the (unproven) idea that fetuses feel pain very early.

I knew about bison meat, it just didn’t cross my radar very often, so it didn’t even occur to me. I assumed it was going to be chicken sandwiches with buffalo sauce.

Once a friend of mine invited me over to his place for “buffalo burgers.” Neither of us is rich, but I think I was making more money at the time, so I asked if I should swing by the store and get chicken on my way over. Very confused, he said, “No, I don’t need to you buy groceries for me.”

Did anyone ask her what she’d been expecting? I really want to know what kind of thing she thought would be called “apple pie” and not have any apples in.

Crohn’s disease can cause similar problems.
