That’s different. That was solely because Mr. T was computer savvy, and Mr. T hacked the game!
Difference being they’re all in-game nods to pop culture, instead of blatant collaborative advertising.
There’s a pretty huge difference between a pop-culture reference, usually involving working around copyrights etc., and usually requiring, you, the player, to have a strong pop culture knowledge to even “get” it, and just dropping blatant advertising into your game, especially for things with a deeply antithetical…
Don’t forget Mr.T popped up in different places and gave you.....something. All because those stupid commercials were popular at the time.
I always thought it fit in with the goblin engineering thing that’s been in the game since day 1 quite nicely. If anything I’d say it’s one of the more quintessentially ‘Warcraft’ things in the game.
There’s very little that any monetization could do to change SWTOR’s dull as hell combat. I’ve never played an MMO that got me so invested in the world yet bored to tears by the slog of combat as SWTOR.
