Well, in existing iMacs they still use 5-inch platter drives over SATA. But Apple has been using PCI-express for SSDs for years now. Their SSD modules aren’t even drives, they’re like tall memory sticks - same as the ones used in their notebooks, plugged directly into the logic boards.

What’s hilarious about that is how about around the year 2000 all the keyboards and mice Apple made (that weren’t bundled with the candy-colored iMacs) were matte black behind clear acrylic. Once Apple started making white Macs customers kept pestering Apple (And me, the nobody selling them at CompUSA) to make white
