People who are adults now see hand-drawn animation and computer animation as two different things, whereas children don’t (or don’t seem to care nearly as much). From their perspective, it’s a matter of quality level. CG tends to almost always look better.
The tank in the 1995 movie is cel animation with some CG post-processing. I think the whole tank was rendered for the moment where it swivels to throw the Major off, that animation was way too smooth to have been done by hand.
