that's because, according to Nichols and some trek books anyway, Roddenberry's original idea WAS to explore a relationship between them but you could never have that in a tv-show from the 60s when they almost got into troubles even for the Kirk/Uhura kiss (that was originally with Spock), even though that was forced.

I find it hard to believe they couldn't find someone in hollywood who makes more sense as a writer of this franchise. As for Pegg, he's hopeless. This will suck.
