That was my point. After reading the Boston Magazine article I felt some pity for Schilling, who is portrayed as someone who wanted to treat his employees fairly and kindly. The article quotes several employees who say they still love the man even after everything that happened. And clearly he’s got some issues. But

You said “It’s hard not to feel sorry for Schilling”. This guy cost so many of his employees so much trying to fulfill his expectations and believing his promises. If anything I feel sorry for all the people he screwed in his ambitions and I hope they are all better off now than they were under his direction.
