A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly is has great practical value.

Just bought a 2009 Infiniti FX50S with every package you could imagine including bluetooth, backup camera, lane departure, heated and COOLED seats (capitalized because - AMAZING) active brake assist, radar cruise control etc etc etc for $17,000. 80K miles. So much life left it should easily go years and years.
I’m pretty sure this is true. the M parallel wheels are the best looking factory wheels ever, but that may be because they were put on some of the best looking sedans ever made (looking at you E38).
WOW! Options totalling 60% of the vehicle price? Is that the first modern Porsche sold in the US?
Tom - your articles are some of my favorites. In my circle, I’ve become one of the defacto resources for people looking for cars. While I am far from a pro like you, I love the experience of it. I enjoy the game in dealing with the dealers, even if I disagree with the idea of it. You give me great insight and…
in what world is it ok to throw a rock at a bunch of puppies? You need prison time.
Yes, no doubt, but 1999 was not that long ago in the structural safety development timeline of automobiles. 1999 does not equal 1960.
I have a 20 year old 7 series that has more airbags than a new Corolla.
You are the perfect dealership customer!!! They love people like you! Folks that look at the monthly payment and see if it fits in the budget are they type of deals that dealerships are equipped to make. I’m not here to tell you it is right or wrong, but when the person selling you something loves to see you come…
I got mine done already in my Nissan (Infiniti) - could it be regional? Seemed like they had plenty of stock here. (SoCal)
Go on you! I lived this exact life around 2008-2009 when the economy took a giant shit. It took about two years of living the ‘beans and rice’ life to pay off both of our student loans, some CC debt, some “0% interest for 18 months if you buy your kitchen renovation here!” debt, two car loans etc. WE WILL NEVER BE…
Not a CFP here, but if your time horizon is 3-4 years, you’d be better off opening an acct and buying in to some type of stable fund. You can always pull your money (might take 3-4 days, but that should be doable) and you should get 3-4%. Inflation alone will steal 3% each year if your money is sitting idle.
Where can you get 0% on beaters? Show me a real bank offering 0% on cars older than 10 years and less than $10,000 and I’ll buy the bank.
Good for your Dave C! One day at a time.
Haywood, If you ever get this going, please let me know. I am all for finding ways to help those that NEED help. For me, there would need to be some decent background on the clients so we really helped those in need. Financial literacy would be a core component. Yes, you can have this car for 0%, but you must…
Good on you turbo_corolla! You made the best decision you could at the time, stuck with it, fought like hell to make it work, and came out the other side. You, like myself, are an american made miracle. Here is to 70 more years of the good life. Cheers!
Orange you glad you don’t drive a daewoo?
You made the right decisions for you.
leasing is great for some, you seem to love it! For me - I have zero need for a NEW car. However, I do love changing cars regularly. I also really enjoy working on a car, making repairs, improvements, etc. It’s a bit of a hobby for me. So I buy 10-15 year old cars with low miles that I can get for great deals,…
We should not forget the best sport truck of the 90's / early 00's:
