I thought 4 & 5 were the standouts also. 2 was the lowest, for me. 1 was kind of pivotal to set the stage. 3 was… there.

The sex-trade and drug-trade storylines served no purpose, to me, other than to establish personalities of the main characters. And you're right, they were confusing with all the characters that only lasted for a few episodes. But if you can soldier through them, the payoff at the end is very very good.

I don't think suicide or escape likely at all. I'm leaning mental institution #1, killed by Romero / Dylan as equally likely #2. Found not guilty and freed a distant #3.

That's another thing, though. What is Madeline so upset about? She knew her marriage was a sham and her husband was a complete jerk and was cheating on her. OK she might be a bit bothered that he was murdered…. or she might not. But I surely wouldn't think she'd risk murder charges to "get revenge" for him.
