So the study doesn’t actually tell you how they calculated it, it just refers to another study.

That study doesn’t base the numbers on the cost of treatment, but instead on the “value of a human life”, which considers a human life to be worth $11 million based on DOT numbers. They conclude from this that someone who

The Altima is kind of surprising and a problem for Nissan, since it’s a mainstream vehicle that was redesigned fairly recently.

IDK if it really means much that the Frontier and Armada are on there, though.  The Armada is a niche vehicle that has never had a ton of sales, and the Frontier hasn’t been redesigned since

Yeah, the Used Car signs at the local Mitsubishi dealer are bigger than the Mitsubishi signs, and the used cars get frontline display too.

I’d go with the cargo version, for added #vanlife privacy.

Normally I’d also suggest looking for the AWD version, but that’s probably not necessary for LA.

I would like to see more interior (and exterior) colors, but looking at those seats reminds me of the ‘78 Dodge Aspen wagon (twin to the Volare) that my parents had when I was a kid, with a brown vinyl interior similar to row 2, column 2. It was awful - uncomfortably hard, and blazing hot in the summer.

Maybe there is

Is it possible that the rooftop thing is a wheelchair lift/storage unit? I’m wondering because there are companies that will lower the floor in minivans to accommodate wheelchairs.

Exactly. I’m one of those people who takes advantage of credit card rewards, which is another thing he’s against. But I also use it only for convenience and rewards and pay my bill off every month.

But if you are someone who is in debt, cutting up the credit cards is a good idea, the rewards aren’t worth it if you are

USPS has been buying off-the-shelf vehicles for years - they were buying Windstars in the 90's, then switched to Caravan C/V / Ram C/V, and now they are buying Ram ProMasters.  But clearly they don’t think they meet their needs as well as a custom-built vehicle would.

I thought about a Colorado or Ranger before I bought my Ram 1500, but the price of one was about the same as the Ram, with a lot fewer options in terms of colors, trims, options, etc. I don’t really need the extra maneuverability of a smaller truck, so I went with having more room.

FWIW, I have a side hustle selling

One of my side hustles is selling at hamfests (ham radio and electronics swap meets) so I own a Ram C/V for hauling stuff. Last year, I got stuck in the muddy parking lot of the Central Florida Fairgrounds at the Orlando Hamcation hamfest.

So an AWD van is very appealing. I don’t care if it has a fancy grill and rims

It appears that Torch’s neighbors are second only to Dave’s in tolerance for the weird vehicle-related hijinx of their Jalopnik writing next door neighbor.

Choice of picture was unintentionally appropriate, what with the Celedon trailer in the front.

Sure, it’s twice what you want to spend, but think how much you’ll save on movers.

Note to self: find woman who hates paperwork.

If you live in David Tracy’s neighborhood, at least a dozen.

How about a Trollblazer? It’s a Saab (in name, anyway), holds tons of stuff, AWD for all that snow. No manual, but it’s got a V8. The mechanicals are GM so it should be cheap to fix. This one has 128k miles for $6000

When I saw the picture, my first thought was “oh, Doug DeMuro is back at Jalopnik and he’s filmed a new video”

Also, in some families, one parent gets the new car and the old one gets handed down to the other spouse.   When I was growing up, Mom got the new car and Dad got the hand me down, which at one point resulted in Mom driving the new Town and Country and Dad driving the old Plymouth Voyager.

There’s a lot of data for RAMs, because FCA sells like 500,000 a year. There is a lot less data for medium/heavy duty pickup trucks with diesel engines and manual transmissions, because that configuration is rare. The estimate is that 2% of buyers bought manuals, and 25% of buyers bought diesels, so a diesel manual is
