Uh, no. I have a 2010 Mac Pro with an off-the-shelf, unflashed GTX 980i installed. nVidia provides drivers for it, and my 12 core/32GB MacPro happily drives 2x 4K monitors without issues. Just about any modern nVidia card will work in these systems, and there are even people that can flash “Mac” firmware on the cards…
