It's also probably worth noting that while solutions like FileVault and Bitlocker use crypto modules that are FIPS 140-2 validated, TrueCrypt does not.

In cases where policy or regulations dictate that FDE be used then there needs to be management policies in place that make sure that it is being used!

Hmm the comment order got strange here.

The recovery process makes it pretty hard to exploit the escrow in any meaningful way though. The "banker's questions" are used to generate a symmetric key that is then used to wrap the personal recovery key (PRK) before it even leaves the Mac. Only someone with those exact answers, and I mean EXACT to the keystroke,

Also Apple has a whitepaper about FV2 here.

There are other FDE systems that work on the Mac like PGP, CheckPoint, and WinMagic but they all face compatibility issues whenever new hardware or software is released.

When you boot back up, OS X will begin encrypting your disk, and your computer will probably run a little slowly while it goes. It could take an hour or more, depending on how big your hard drive is.

If you need to keep a few files safe from prying eyes, you can encrypt them with the free, open-source, cross-platform TrueCrypt. These steps should work on Windows, OS X, and Linux. Note that if you're encrypting files to send them over the internet, you can also use this previously mentioned 7-Zip method.

As we mentioned at the beginning, encryption is not 100% foolproof—but it's better than leaving your files out in the open. Remember what encryption can't do—it can't secure your drive if it's infected with malware, if you leave it turned on in public spaces, or if you're using a weak password. Even if you put your

Why are there campfires on the beach where it comes ashore? Is that a marker to aim for?

My thoughts exactly! It was tricky and you had to pay attention to the puzzle, but it wasn't hard.

I've been in town all week for meetings and driving last night was like bumper cars. It wasn't very slick other than bridges, but holy crap they can't drive in it!

As far as I can tell, all of the King.com games are just shameless ripoffs of other games, namely Bejeweled and Peggle.

By default, Feedly opens all links you click on in a new tab. That's great, except for the fact that it also steals focus from the tab you're on. If you're the type to load up a bunch of tabs at once, Feedly Background Tab for Chrome is an extension that does just that. Hit ";" when you're on an article and it'll open

Damn you, I came here to post this!
