The screen rez is not great, about halfway between a 3gs (163ppi)and iphone 4(326ppi). The fact is that a smaller lower rez screen needs less ram, processing power, and battery to drive, so the other elements (besides the camera) are proportional.

The one scenario not explored is the iPad2 disappearing and the mini taking it's place. The iPad2 is kind of an awkward product in that it is cosmetically identical to the iPad3, and replacing it with the mini would make the products line clearer.
