A towel will work at the IR wavelengths used by a kinect. You might be thinking thermal IR which is at a much longer wavelength. Even then a towel will do pretty well, cotton is pretty much opaque to these wavelengths too.

The 360 is a three core PPC processor, the One is a 8 core AMD processor. The instruction sets are not the same so they will not be compatible except through emulation.
