This isn’t a new idea. FEV has proposed this a while ago. Theirs ran on natural gas although I recall they also made a gas one as well. The rotary has the advantage of being smaller and granting the designers the ability to allocate more room to the cabin.

Asking the car to identify the shoulder and determine if it is acceptable to pull over there is a monumental task considering how many different conditions the shoulder could be in (If there is a shoulder at all). Most drivers don’t like slowing or stopping for no reason so slowing down really gets their attention.

This is the most likely explanation for a mid engine Corvette, the Camaro just competes too closely with it now. Now if only we could get something sporty that would slot below the Camaro.....
