We’re laughing at him too much. The Southern Strategy put both Nixon and Reagan in the White House. Nor is that anywhere near the first time racism has determined national elections in this country.

Quote from the NYT yesterday that had me shaking my head:

“... and we’re going to take our country back ...”

There are a number of people who don't see him as a joke. It's rather scary.

My beloved yet somewhat disgusting husband is similar. He’ll cover the sink in beard hairs, walk through DRIFTS of animal hair, leave ashtrays and beer cans everywhere, ignore cat litter tracked into the kitchen, etc. Basically, if the mess is below ankle level, he’s completely oblivious to it, and he leaves a trail

People are going to tell you “just talk to him!” as if that gets to the root of the problem, which is that you should not have to delegate household tasks to your husband! Expecting a man to clean up after himself and take the initiative regarding domestic tasks is NOT “expecting mind-reading.” You have every right to

Little C & H help you out?

lol. white person concern-trolling me about “taking away from the real issue of racism.” tell me,dear, who won’t take claims of racism seriously? certainly not poc. tuh. we’s best be on our good behavior, huh? how dare i question you about a potential racial bias! you’re one of the good ones!

I agree. I shouldn’t have said, “kinda problematic”—I should have just said “problematic.” I apologize for this. I should have been more thoughtful in wording. I think I went towards “kinda” because she wasn’t saying it with the intention of being derogatory (i.e. with the intention of calling someone a “dyke”). If

Straight people using slurs like dyke and faggot and their derivatives isn’t just “kinda” problematic. It’s wrong. Even if the person doing it is a good person or it happened a long time action, it itself is still wrong. I don’t think we need to drag that stuff up when it happened years and years ago and when the

People with all kinds of ideas go to Hajj. My friend’s new agey-secular Muslim parents went last year. Not sure what you are talking about but it’s clear you don’t know much about Islam or Hajj.

The Mecca line is a reference to Malcom X’s life changing experience during his Hajj, where he shared the pilgrimage with “blue-eyed Muslims” among other people of all colors. It’s no coincidence that this was released a few days after X’s 90th birthday.

“Mecca” is also commonly used as shorthand for any central hub, though. Chicago can be described as the “mecca for improv comedy” things like that.

I found her comments unnecessarily negative and way to eager to a young woman “in her place.”

Ive never been to Mecca but many of my family have, they found it an amazing awakening spiritual experience and I myself can’t wait to go. I find Tabby Gevinson’s comments kind of, hum, Im not sure Im articulate enough to express what I want to express but I do wish he/she would stop typing.

I would suggest that Willow is using the idea of Mecca symbolically and is not referring to the real place but an utopian vision that exist in the mind. I can’t believe I just wrote a sentence about the underlying philosophical themes in a Willow Smith song. Somebody, please help me.

Thank you but I had an amazing life-altering experience in Mecca. Peace.

It’s just a song lyric. I’m not sure anyone’s supposed to take it as a serious thing.

Meh I’m a white atheist and I had a way worse time at the vatican than visiting mecca, talk about your intolerant people.....They probably didnt like how i showed a few tours where the nazis hid out there so maybe I had it coming lol

Yeeeeah, but. Mecca is also commonly used as a metaphor, like Vegas is America’s gambling tourist mecca.
